Bibliotheque is a wine bar and café in right in the heart of Soho. Opened by a father and son team,
it combined their passions, as the father is a wine connoisseur and the son is an author who loves
books. Wanting to create both a modern and retro feel, they hired Mary Evans to do the interior/
lighting design and build the space out for them. The building was built in the 1800s, and in the
basement where events are held, two glass rooms were created for the renowned wine collection,
one for reds and one for whites.
"We wanted to keep some of the original history of the building", explains Evans. "Lighting the wine
and accenting the stone walls is the key to make it special. So we have linear fixtures in there. Air
temperature is very specific to wine cellars, and the PureEdge lighting didn't generate any noticeable
heat. But color temperature was important for aesthetic feel, to give it the crispest natural light, but
also to be able to change colors during events."
The Reveal Wall Wash 2 TruColor™ RGBTW 24VDC 5/8" Drywall
Plaster-In LED System washes the wall from the very top of the ceiling
highlighting the wall with continuous illumination. Simply mount
the slim profile plaster-in extrusions within 5/8" or thicker drywall, 24"
from the projected wall. The system is sold in 1' increments up to 20'
and can be cut in the field. Continuing to redefine the relationship
between lighting and interior design, Reveal Wall Wash invokes
dramatic yet refined illumination by highlighting art and architectural
features in the most minimal way possible. The Reveal Wall Wash
with TruColor™ RGBTW light engine requires Pure Smart™ controls
for operation. Reveal Wall Wash is offered in multiple wattages and
color temperatures.
Evans continues, "We used the Nova Wall Grazer and
TruLine for the stairway and TruLine in the bar area.
Also we left the brick that's the original brick of the
building. Believe it or not, the TruLine really accents
it. The artwork and the general feeling of the space.
We didn't need to have a lot, but what we did was
very dramatic. It works. It works beautifully. They use
this color changing all the time. The client wanted
his concept of the space to be a very elegant French
restaurant. I wanted there to be a juxtaposition
of elements. So it looked state of the art and old
combined. The lighting really did that for me. It
allowed me to create this, elegant, detailed sort of
old-world space. But between the lighting and the
furniture, we were able to give it the juxtaposition I
thought it would be. Lighting can be a background,
but it's actually not. So it can be a background to the
architecture of the cabinetry and the chandeliers, but
on its own and in the space it, it has a big presence.
So it was perfect. It was like the perfect combination
for me"
The Nova Ceiling Wall Grazer is a linear LED fixture that produces a grazing effect on textured surfaces
using direct light in a clean, contemporary style. Offered with a Split Canopy that mounts on Standard
Junction Box or with a Slim Profile 1" Rectangular Junction Box (C-1RE-JBOX). Includes mounting
clips every 2'. Powered by Class 2, 24VDC remote power supplies that can be located up to 40' away.
Lengths range from 36" to 240" and can be ordered in various increments in several metal finishes.
The Nova Wall Grazer is available with a 20° Beam Spread with a Clear Frosted glare control lens and
an optional Black or White Louver. Pure Smart TruColor™ technology uses five channels of tunable
LEDs, composed of RGBTW red, blue, green, and Tunable White (1500K-6500K). With our precision
engineered, proprietary color mixing, we produce one of the widest, most accurate spectrums
available, giving our customers access to the warm glow of the sunset (1500K-2400K golden hour) to
the pure white light of the mid-day sun (5700K) and everything in between. Dynamic Color Changing
functionality provides millions of possibilities for intricate customization, rich saturated secondary
colors, and unprecedented ease of installation, making RGBTW the ideal choice for residential and
commercial applications.
Truline™ with TruColor™ RGBTW light engine is another original and innovative design that comes
from the family of Plaster-in 24VDC systems pioneered by PureEdge that recesses within 5/8"
drywall, without any framing modification required. Redefining the relationship between Lighting
and Interior Design, this innovative and highly efficient system blends seamlessly into the drywall,
becoming part of the architecture. The slim extrusions, LED strips, and lenses are field-cuttable and
ordered in 1' increments (up to 20' before re-feeding), power feeds included. Multiple runs of channel
mount flawlessly together providing smooth and glare-free general illumination using designergrade color
rendering LEDs (97+ CRI). With the ability to run in vertical, horizontal, and diagonal
directions, the compositions are truly endless. TruLine™ Plaster-in LED System is offered in multiple
color temperatures and wattage options.
The systems were controlled by both the
WiZ app and the Pure Smart™ Wi-Fi Room
Controller which works with any WiZ Connected
Smart fixtures/lamps. The Room Controller
grants independent adjustment of both color
temperature and intensity, as well as scene
selection for Single Channel/Static, Tunable
White, and TruColor™ RGBTW Fixtures. Four
preset scenes can be associated with the room
controller via the WiZ App. Custom scenes can
be created using multiple layers of light, colors,
and can include Pure Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer
and Switch as well. No Hub required. Room
Controller communicates with fixtures directly
on the Local Area Network allowing for control
even if the Wi-Fi goes down.
Evans concludes, "I've used PureEdge for many years. It's a very unique product. First
of all, it's very well made. We never have any issues. I don't have to go back to projects
that because the lighting doesn't work or it gets grayed or it's shadows or any of those
things. Plus, it's very unique in that you can create patterns and shapes, but you can
also keep it very simple and it's very different. It's a beautiful product that's different in
the industry. I've gone to the shows and looked at many spaces, nobody makes what
PureEdge does."
